The Edison

Location:
Marylebone, NW1
Year:
2009 – 2011
Type:
Commercial
Size:
28,000 sq ft

Named after Thomas Edison, one of the world’s most innovative thinkers and prolific inventors, this Art Deco building on Old Marylebone Road has been transformed into a striking commercial development.

The six-storey office space is the first project of its type for award-winning architect Sir David Adjaye, featuring a constructive design of sunken mirrors, stacked planes of marble and stylish red leather seating.

This project saw Manhattan Loft Corporation return to its roots, harnessing the generous space and high ceilings of this former industrial building to create an open-plan loft-style work environment. The Edison is the central London headquarters of Manhattan Loft Corporation and Adjaye Associates.

DRAMATIC SPACE, DRAMATIC COLOURS AND AN INCREDIBLE GEOMETRY.

REALLY, REALLY SPECIAL. UNLIKE ANYTHING ELSE AROUND TOWN. THERE ISN’T ANOTHER INTERESTING OFFICE BUILDING OF THIS KIND.

DAVID ROSEN

I WANTED TO CREATE AN ALTERNATIVE IN WHAT HAS BECOME A VERY FASHIONABLE AREA: SOMETHING GRITTIER, MORE URBAN.
